I Knew He Wouldn't Disappoint!

Well, I told you that you would be entertained! WB will most likely need to publish a glossary for anyone that isn't Scottish to be able "tae" read the thing! If you aren't familiar with the fabulous work of Terry Pratchett you probably didn't know what he was referring to, but that is OK too.

I would heartily recommend Terry Pratchett's work to anyone - well, anyone with a sense of humor. I discovered him while on a 5 month mission to Scotland. I brought back a couple books for WB and he was hooked. Up until Ivan the Terrible washed through his house he had all but about 6 of the novels in Pratchett's Discworld series. WB has actually read more of them than I have!

Perhaps you are wondering what this Terry Pratchett's work is like. Well, it is hilarious for one. Terry makes fun of everything that can be made fun of. He is an equal opportunity lampooner - don't be offended with him; he makes fun of everyone! The great thing is that the things that he derides are things that really are scorn worthy!

Terry Pratchett has created this wonderfully weird world called Discworld. Discworld is flat - hence its name - and has a grand ocean that continually flows over the edge into space.

In the event that you would happen to be unfortunate enough to do this (i.e. go over the edge on Discworld) you would realize that Discworld is carried on the back of 4 enormous elephants. As you continued to plummet through space you would discover that these elephants are standing on the back of a giant seaturtle swimming through outer space - the Great A'Tuin.

Discworld is a very magical place, so you won't be surprised to find that there are witches and wizards there. There are also dwarves, trolls, assasins, street vendors, and whole host of other rich characters. As I think of it, there is only one type of character that is completely absent from Discworld - normal people! Everyone there is a little cracked!

If you are looking for a good place to start with Terry Pratchett, get the first two Discworld novels: The Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic. Go ahead and get both of them. The Colour of Magic leaves you hanging and you'll need The Light Fantastic to finish the story. Buy it. Read it. Laugh yourself silly.

Well I guess that is about all for now, so I'll wish you a...

GOOD NIGHT.
