Greed Is Going To Do Us In

There are days when I just can't believe what I am reading. I am sadly discovering that common sense is even less common than I had imagined. Consider the following headline:

Selling National Security:
China bids for firm that makes "intrusion prevention" technology for the Department of Defense.

Perhaps you will recall that I posted an article a few weeks ago about how the Chinese had launched a cyber attack against the Pentagon?

Apparently there are many assurances that the Chinese won't be able to get access to this sensitive information. They will only be minority stock holders, right? The best argument of all, though, was that it would be really good for the value of the stock.

Aye, aye, aye, aye!

I'm sure the same arguments were used when President Clinton allowed sensitive computer technology to be given to China. The same technology that has allowed them to pursue a Lunar mission and has given them the technology that they need to develop ICBMs.

It is about time that Americans refute the lie that "it's all about the economy, stupid." It isn't. There comes a time when we have to say, "Our national security isn't for sale at any price." When we get to that point, American manufacturing companies will stop "outsourcing" production overseas, politicians will stop receiving illegal contributions from foreign governments (or will be treated as the traitors that they are), and illegal immigration will be stopped and the borders secured.

I fear that our greed will be our undoing.
