Congress Won't Renew Assault Weapons Ban
This nation's most worthless piece of legislation is about to die. It was passed in the aftermath of the Columbine tragedy so that Congress and President Clinton could act like they had actually done something to keep it from happening again. While proponents of the bill swore that it would produce a dramatic decrease in violent crime across the nation, these claims were never realized. Similarly the same people claim that the expiration of the ban will cause a dramatic increase in violent crime. Let me go on record to say that there will be absolutely no increase in the occurrence of violent crime as a result of the sunset of this stupid bill. Check the numbers in 4 years. I'll be right!

You've got that right, WB. That is one of the main purposes of the Second Amendment. An armed society always has a recourse to tyranny. The major "crock" of the whole "Assault Weapons" ban is that the ban had to do more with the way that a weapon looked than anything else. One of the major features that qualified a weapon as an "assault" weapon was whether it had a bayonet lug or not. How many fixed bayonet crimes have you ever heard of? You could have two AR-15s sitting side by side and one was "legal" and the other was "illegal" simply because one had a flash suppresser and a bayonet lug. Another fallacy of the bill is that it made the weapons unavailable. I suppose that it did make them more scarce, but it hardly made them unavailable. It was possible to easily acquire "assault weapons" legally after the ban. I will welcome the lower prices that should attend the relaxing of these restrictions.
