Is anyone out there as perplexed as I am about the Congressional hearings about steroid use in Major League Baseball? Why is this a Congressional matter? Is this a great national security issue? No! There is absolutely no reason why our Senators and Representatives should be wasting valuable time and taxpayer money to "investigate" steroid use in MLB. Baseball isn't run by the US Government and never should be. (In spite of the fact that former President Jimmy Carter seemed to think that his "expert" negotiating skills were needed during the last strike.)
There are far bigger fish that need frying: Osama Bin Laden hasn't been captured. China is threatening Taiwan. North Korea has a crack pot in charge. Iraq isn't stable. Sudan is a mess. Iran is trying to get nukes. Putin is trying to strangle democracy in Russia. Gas prices are over $2 a gallon on average. Social Security is in the red. Illegal immigrants and terrorists are flooding across the borders. The tax code is too complicated. American students are falling behind. The American healthcare system needs help. Hundreds of judicial and other government positions are vacant.
Somehow steroid use in baseball just doesn't seem worthy of this kind of attention - especially since MLB has finally done something to address the issue. Congress is a day late and a dollar short on this one. In fact, they shouldn't have even gotten an invitation.
It's time for Congress to quit posturing and get back to work!
